Reading this book was like reading the entries in an amateur book writing contest for high school seniors. Every feeling and situation was forced fed to you - you had to be told there was an attraction, or conflict, or any other emotion because there was no development or description of it, the events, or the characters to lead you to that conclusion. You were told what the characters felt to move the story along. It was so choppy and uneven it felt like a punishment to have to finish it. The attraction between the h/h had no depth, quality, or believeability; the "fear" the big-bad "lawman" showed when the heroine got hurt (puh-leeze, you would have thought she had been beaten near death instead of falling down some stairs); the sex was DULL, the descriptions trite, and the heat non existent both for the main characters and the secondary characters. The plot had potential, no doubt. But there was NO - NONE - NOT ANY, character development or story development. It was tedious reading and not worth the money or time I spent on it. Not to mention it was so poorly edited that I read it with pen in hand and it came out looking like a "C" term paper.
The story was charming. But I read this on my , and the editing was terrible. Between the main character being a professor, and my being a professor, I just wanted to spend my time correcting the mistakes. Some was actual grammar, some seemed to be typos, and some consisted of simply not finishing the sentence. This made it painful to read. Shame on whoever is in charge of making sure this is a finished book.
I love Miss Schroeder's books! Grace doesn't fall short! She just falls! The klutzy character is very easy to relate to and her hot hot love interest keep the pages, and the sheets, steamy. Couldn't put it down.
I've had this book in paperback form since 2006. It has wonderful mc s . The sub characters help tie it all together to the book it is now. A definite read if you have chance. I've been a long time reader of this author. I've not been disappointed yet....lol...and that's saying something.
Chief of Police Ren moves to town after his divorce and is immediately attracted to Grace. However, she is a white picket fence type and he does not do commitment (anymore).

I liked the story but it is no more than a simple romance with a HEA after a little bit of squibbling. Could have been more. The writing was OK but seemed a bit off sometimes. And the 'mystery' was not much of a mystery because I could guess miles ahead who wanted Grace out of the picture.
Melissa Schroeder's writing always strikes a chord with me. Great, flawed believable characters mingled with plenty of humor, romance and a little mystery adds up to memorable books. She never disappoints.
If confusion and un-coordination gets any better that this I don't know how. Adorable first faux pas is replacing the word erection instead election. One has to laugh at the memory of walking on stage with her dress tucked into her pantyhose. One of a woman's greatest fear that and being caught in a picture without her hair and makeup being perfect. And who couldn't fall in love the hunkiest Sheriff ever, right? So when her ex shows up in town and even more uncoordinated things start happening to her who else would they blame? If I had to picture the perfect actress to portray Grace? It would be a very young Lucille Ball or Debra Messing (You know Grace from Will and Grace.....funny right?) It is a great book. I would buy it again.
