I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A contemporary rock star romance with the music theme done right.

I don't know if the author is herself a musician or if she did some excellent research. But I very much appreciate the authenticity she brought to the story.

Our heroine captured my heart from the very start. <--- That is unusual for me as I generally have a hard time connecting with heroines in a romance novel. Yet, Libby was awesome from start to end. ---adjective time! *rubs hands happily* Honest, forthright, secure, caring, supportive, self-aware, independent. <--- That was Libby. <3

Our rock star, Killian (cool name) is not only swoon worthy as a music idol, he is swoon worthy as a person. Strong, brave, talented, level-headed, sweet and caring. A lovely young man.

They meet under less than perfect circumstances but their natures allow them to quickly form a friendship. One that slowly but surely turns into something more as they discover their mutual love of music. They encourage and support each other. It's beautiful to see.

This would be a five star rating from me except for a half dozen or so typos and use of a miscommunication device in a story that could easily have done without it.

A big four stars from me for this delightful contemporary romance.

I think I "have to" read Scottie's story next. Out of all the characters, Gabriel Scott intrigued me the most with his 3-piece bespoke suits, English accent and extreme physical beauty. He is an enigma that I have to find the answer to.

Idol VIP Book 1 edition by Kristen Callihan Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this book before now! So recently book #3 in this series was released and I wanted to re-read the first two beforehand and I remember why I absolutely love this series! Book one follows Killian and Liberty. Oh, Killian. Beautiful and so very lost. He ends up passed out on Libby's front lawn (after he crashes his bike in her yard) and soon realizes just how amazing his new neighbor is. This series dives deep into a serious issue, but Kristen Callahan still manages to provide us with humor and chemistry. I love that Killian gives Liberty the push she needs (she's a hermit and not a fan of change) and even though it doesn't turn out exactly how either of them planned, the ending is perfect all the same. I love the secondary characters in the book and knowing we get their stories as well? It's great. It takes rocker romance to a different level.
Wow this was actually pretty great! I've read a lot of mixed reviews about this book so I've been holding off on reading it because I assumed I wouldn't like it. Maybe it's because I went in with low expectations and so I ended up really enjoying this book but regardless, this was a winner for me.

It's not a perfect book and these characters are so far from perfect it's actually funny. But I liked it regardless. Seeing character growth is one of my favorites aspects of reading a book and I love how Callihan gives us such a great cast of secondary characters. Oh and I absolutely loved the fact that Killian, our hero, is half Cuban! I was so shocked and elated when he talked about his background and about his abuelita! Diversity is the greatest thing and it's the greatest feeling reading about characters who you can relate to in a cultural context. I really hope we see more diverse characters in this series though, perhaps one of the other guys falls for a POC heroine? I really hope so! P

Another thing Callihan did with this book/series that I seriously applaud is that she brought some diversity not only with a POC hero but in terms of mental illness. The way it was handled was (in my opinion) done very well and I can't wait to get Jax's book because I want to know his story so badly.

My only complaint about this book would be that in the beginning Killian and Libby were a bit too insta-love for me. Technically they were friends for two months before they ever acted on their feelings but the author literally skips fast forward through those two months so we're just told about how close they are and how great their friendship is instead of being shown it. So for me, I'd only seen them have like 2-3 interactions together and I needed more in order to be committed to their relationship and find the intensity of their feelings believable. However later in the book I was completely rooting for them and loved them as a couple.

Also (and this may be a random weird thing for me) but in the beginning the author kind of goes back and forth over what color hair Libby has and that kind of bothered me. It felt like she wanted her to be a blonde but then she'd say light brown that almost looked blonde, or honey brown or even brown with blonde streaks and it kind of annoyed me because I just wanted to shout "if you want her to be blonde then freaking say it from the beginning stop committing to a hair color you don't really want!" Also I checked out her pinterest board for the book and nearly all the photos for Libby inspiration are of a blonde women so...? Again this is so random and didn't have any hindering on my rating it was just something that I noticed and it made it hard for me to picture what Libby looked like a bit and I needed to rant about for 5.2 seconds lol.

I haven't read a rockstar romance in ages, I honestly thought I wasn't really interested in those books anymore but it looks like I'm still a sucker for them. I'd definitely recommend giving this book a shot and I'm 100% checking out the next book and the rest of the books for this series because I need these men to get their HEA's!
I loved everything about Idol, the story line, the characters, the supporting cast, the humor & the chemistry between Killian and Liberty. (hot hot hot) I also appreciate that this is a "whole" book, doesn't end in a cliffhanger and not overrun with angst. I've never read a book by Kristen Callihan and I debated before I hit buy but I'm so glad I did! She is an excellent author who hooked me from page one and kept me interested till the end. Thank you for an awesome read Kristen. This won't be the last book I buy. I can't wait to read about Scottie.
