Abby is a Ranger, part of an elite group who defend the border against Reapers - humans infected with a parasite that turns them into mindless cannibals. Rangers are immune to Reaper infection, and as one of the only female Rangers, Abby is expected to settle down and breed more Rangers - a fate she's keen to avoid. When she's ambushed on the plains, she's ready to go out with guns blazing - until a mysterious, handsome cowboy rides to her rescue.

Jake has his own motives for helping Abby, beyond aiding a damsel in distress. He's a Reaper, and while he's learned to wrest control of his mind from the parasite, the effects won't last without a permanent cure. And he needs Abby to get it.

Abby and Jake are natural enemies and unlikely partners. But when their search reveals a conspiracy between Reapers and the rich industrialists who own the mountain cities, they must work together to find the cure - or lose the border, and each other, forever.

Reaper Touch (Audible Audio Edition) Eleri Stone Kate Zane Carina Press Books

When Ranger Abby's captain sends her on a solo mission, her world view will shift as she crosses paths with a Reaper who has gained control of his inner parasite - so Jake is not your typical Reaper. And as Abby joins Jake to save scientists who are on the verge of discovering a cure for Reaperism, Abby learns that humans can be as monstrous as the monsters - and enemies can be friends and more.

I feel like Reader's Touch has only scratched the surface of Eleri Stone's Reaper world, a world which has left the wealthy living in mountain cities while the rest scrape out a living in the lowlands in perpetual danger from violent mindless flesh eating Reapers and the threat of turning Reaper themselves. Abby is a Ranger, one of a few rare humans immune to the reapers' bite, and a rare female Ranger whose only choices in life are to fight Reapers or to devote her life to breeding more Rangers.

I generally am not fond of zombie romances, but Reapers are not the typical shambling decomposing zombies - they are more on the order of possessed- so this wasn't one of those stories . I really liked both leads. Abby is a warrior but a life with limited choices hasn't hardened her heart. I really like Jake, I am a fan of honorable controlled heroes who struggle with being unworthy of their heroines- having read a couple of this author's books I can say that she does a good job with conflicted nice guy heroes. I also really like enemies to lovers stories and author Stone does a good job of building the relationship - and the sensual tension -between the pair. And by holding off the romantic payoff, there was time to build the world and the story around them.

So I really enjoyed Reaper's Touch and while this would work as a standalone, I am interested in reading more from this alternate Old West-y world with just a hint of steampunk.

Reaper Touch (Audible Audio Edition) Eleri Stone Kate Zane Carina Press Books Reviews

Interesting
I love this book. Very different world. And love how everything happens and ends.
Good story with a good plot and a believable story line. It could have easily been 5 stars if there was better sex.
Reapers, humans controlled by symbiotic parasites, have humanity penned in the mountains while they control the plains with zombie like attacks. only Rangers are strong enough to oppose them. Overall a good read but I would have liked to see a resolution to the conspiracy and the romance was very Buffy.
I loved this. It was a wonderful blend of alternate history mayhem and romance with solid world building, a hero and heroine you will adore, and danger at every turn.

I really enjoy stories that force people to look past their convictions and face the possibility that they were wrong. Eleri is very skilled at creating strong heroines and heroes who are good guys in difficult, precarious situations.

This has a great HEA I will admit to sniffling over. ) Can't wait for book two.
What a good book! I was completely swept up in the story. Stone has penned an outstanding and unique tale of cowboys vs. zombie-like creatures. A really neat part of the premise is that it was some sort of biological disaster that created the creatures. The USA is on its own, quarantined from other parts of the world. They,ve constructed outposts to protect the rural citizenry from the marauding creatures.

There's also a clear divide among socioeconomic classes, which adds another layer to a story already brimming with things to hold the readers' interest.

The book is a crazy sort of mixture of western/dystopian/zombie-horror/steam-punk/romance. Yeah...that is a mouthful, but the incredible part is how it all works. Stone has a gift when it comes to wielding a keyboard, and this book displays it quite well.

The world-building is excellent. I could easily see the action and the surroundings, but it wasn't overdone to the point of tedium.

Her character building is outstanding. I really liked the MCs, Abby and Jake. Thoroughly written, easy to empathize with. Lots of tension between them the whole way through the story. Abby's tough, and Jake is a hard man. Two people, sworn enemies, working together. And the supporting characters weren't just shadows in the background. She did a great job with them as well, fleshing them out so the reader knows them. But not so much that it takes attention away from Jake and Abby.

I'd set this book on the shelf beside Sheri S Tepper's books.

This would make a good movie. Hollywood, are you listening? -)
