Lucky Break Chicagoland Vampires edition by Chloe Neill Paranormal Romance eBooks

The full length books are all about the vampires while as the shorts focus more on Neill's shifters which is the only reason why I read 'em cuz I'm not normally keen on novellas. Whenever Urban Fantasy protagonists take five, you know that something is going to go horribly awry—case in point. This was a cute story about family feuds à la supe with a romantic resolution that was over a century in the making. It didn't really contribute much to the series in terms of plot arc; however readers do get a dose of this author's mountain lions, and learn a bit about what life is like for vampires that live outside of the Houses (i.e. Clans). The Orangesplosion won't win any awards, but I never miss an opportunity to hang with Merit & Ethan, and neither should you if you're pro CHICAGOLAND VAMPIRES. ~ 3.5 stars

Lucky Break Chicagoland Vampires edition by Chloe Neill Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

It's unfortunate that Merit and Ethan can never seem to find much time to just love and spoil each other since there's always some type of drama going on, but I guess if they did these books just wouldn't be the same. In this novella, they try to get away from Chicago for a short vacation but even away from home trouble will find them. This was a nice quick story, an interlude between major volumes in the series, but it was a good read merging the shifters and the vamps. I especially enjoyed the sneak peek at the newest book. Can't wait for it to get shipped to me so I can pick up right where it left off!
A great short story set in the world of the Chicagoland series.
Ethan and Merit take some time away from all they've had to deal with over the last year, and head out for the mountains of Colorado.
They are barely through the door of their guest house, when trouble finds them. And before you know it, they are caught up in a century long feud between shifters and vampires.
It was a great story, well written as all of Chloe Neills books are. I love Ethan and Merit, and anytime they are featured, I'm thrilled. It was unfortunately too short. I wanted more.
But we did get a sneak peek at the next full length novel. I can't wait.
It was kind of nice to see Ethan and Merit out on their own. I love that they were trying to have a romantic getaway for just the two of them. Of course in true Chicagoland Vampire fashion it doesn’t work out that way. The drama that unfolds around them is really interesting and had me on the edge of my seat. I love that Gabriel is called into it…I do love me the leader of the NAC. And I also love Damien Garza…who I’m really hoping will get a novella sometime down the road like Jeff did. Shifters are yummy. But really, even with all the yummy shifters, this story was amazing because Ethan and Merit were together the entire time, working together, loving each other, the way they should be. Loved it!
Novella that takes Cadogan House vampires Merit and the house leader, Ethan, to Colorado for a well deserved vacation. The very night they arrive they find themselves in the middle of a feud that’s lasted over 100 years between a clan of vampires that aren’t part of any House, and a family of shifters that don’t recognize being a part of Gabriel’s pack.

It was good to see Merit and Ethan together away from House and Chicago politics while attempting to solve a murder and find a way to end a feud. But I did find myself disappointed that we don’t see all guilty parties facing justice.

The story does fill a need for those of us who are waiting for the next release, but I don't recommend this as a place to start reading the series.
As a fan of Chloe Neill and all things Merit, when I realized I hadn't read about the Colorado vacation mentioned in Dark Debt I did some digging and found this novella. It takes place right after Wild Things in the series, and although it isn't essential to the story line it is well worth reading. Ethan and Merit attempt to have some down time on a vacation to the mountains of Colorado, but they soon find themselves caught in the middle of a feud between the local shifters and a vampire clan. Good stuff!
So Ethan and Merit decide to take a vacation after events in Blood Games so they head to a secluded place in Colorado owned by a vampire Ethan knows. Unfortunately it's not long after their arrival that they're met by Ethan's friend Nessa (the owner) and fund out that her husband Taran (a shifter) has been killed. What Ethan and Merit discover is they are smack dab in the middle of a centuries old Hatfield and McCoy-style feud between the shifters and vampires that live on the land. Of course Ethan and Merit, unable to catch a break, get involved to try to figure out who really killed Taran.

I liked the murder-mystery aspect of the investigation. It's always interesting to see places outside of Chicago and Lucky Break is no different in that regard. We obviously get to see a different group of shifters than we're used to seeing with the Keene family, and we see what they called a clan of vampires as opposed to a House.

It was a quick read and I liked that (despite having their vacation ruined) the whole story has Ethan and Merit together. The short story definitely makes me ready to read the next full-length book in the series Dark Debt and luckily it comes out in just a couple of weeks!
Chloe Neill has done it again. Another great Chicagoland Vampire book! This one however takes place much farther away from Chicago. Ethan Sullivan, Master of Cadagon House & his Sentinel/lover Merit have flown out to the wilds of Colorado for a little R&R. Unfortunately no sooner do they arrive then they are embroiled in the middle of a long term feud between the local vampire clan & local shifters. Lots of action as they try to survive, solve a current murder, & solve a long ago crime that may have been the original cause of the feud. I really enjoyed this latest installment. My only complaint? It was way too short!! I'm greedy, I wanted more!
The full length books are all about the vampires while as the shorts focus more on Neill's shifters which is the only reason why I read 'em cuz I'm not normally keen on novellas.
