What happens when the zombie apocalypse turns out to be a zombie aberration?

Dead Rite, an undead management and control firm, suddenly finds itself on the brink of bankruptcy. The zombie population is dwindling and the bills are piling up.
So when a lucrative opportunity unexpectedly presents itself, it seems almost too good to be true.

A unique and clever take on the oversaturated zombie apocalypse scenario - in this world, the apocalypse was contained and the world has mostly moved on. The few stragglers and outbreaks contained by private companies who turn their catches over for a government bounty. The main plot follows a smaller company scrabbling to stay in business who stumble upon an outbreak in a retirement community, where the zombies are so similar to the very elderly no one has figured out what's happened yet. This looks like an absolutely spectacular to poach a huge bounty out from under the noses of their high-tech, slick competitors, but of course things go horrifically pear-shaped pretty quickly.Most of the zombie action comes fairly late, as the author spends a good deal of time developing main character and his desperate living situation, and the many quirky side characters, laying a foundation for why they would do something so risky. The MC is in a relatable amount of trouble, but he's such a spineless jellyfish who lets his obnoxious room-mate walk all over him to such an extant it does become frustrating.
WHere the story really shines is the social satire, as the author mercilessly skewers both ultra-liberal and ultra-conservative with a dry, sardonic humor, through the lens of zombies rather than real world conflicts over race, gender, disabilities and so on. The low cunning of the candidate milking the public's lingering fear and hatred of the mostly-harmless undead on his way to being elected bears more than a few similarities to a certain orange-tinted sack of failure, the only thing missing would be finding out the election results were hacked by Russian vampires.
The only off note is that although the novel clearly takes place in the USA, the author uses British terms like Prime Minister rather than President and boot rather than trunk (re: car), and it's not clear if this is to place the story in a world that's not quite our reality, or if it was a mistake.

This is so much better than the often read stories of ZOMBIE Apocalypse an there being no end or no suvivors. You will enjoy this new look at Zombies and the people who make their livings by using zombies. I RECOMMEND this excellent read and different take on a favorite topic..ZOMBIES. ENJOY!!
A clever and well-written corrective to the usual mindless zombie gore and cliches.
This story could easily make an excellent movie, or - with a slight assist from fickle fate - a book with hundreds of reviews and thousands of sales. This book is quality. Much like Walt Morton's superb AMERICAN GHOUL, this is a jewel waiting to be discovered amidst a sea of zombie mediocrity (which rather resembles in its mindless and pointless repetition the zombies themselves).
I am honestly saying that this is absolutely the BEST ZA book ever!! I can't believe the incredible story. The originality. Full character development. The underlying social commentary also got me thinking about how America is now, pitted against each other with overblown political correctness! The synapses on the page should get you started. I don't want to spoil the book for anyone. I just hated it that it had to finish.
Nathan Allen is brilliant. This story has everything. You don't have to love zombies to love this book. The story was fun. With good production, script, and casting , there should be no doubt this story is the next Sean of the Dead. I couldn't put this book down. I smiled the whole time.
For the pending movie, country should be the nexus.

My initial thought was "Another Zombie Post Apocalyptic" book - am I really ready for it? There were a n u Amber of good reviews so I decided to give it a try.
I was seriously impressed by how the author wrote a tongue in cheek zombie book when keeping it light, fun, mildly gory, etc. A great romp which caused me to download his two other books. I don't think the author is writing for the money as all three of his books are free. I will immediately start on another and be back with a review.
I very much enjoyed this book and the writing style. I believe the author to be very talented and hope he continues to write and hopes those reading this mini review take a chance on this author.
This book is a well-written satire of today's society, with zombies (or "former humans") filling in for the poor and marginalized. There's a politician who wants to "take the country back" from the undead. There are religious leaders who say the zombie outbreak was caused by a lack of morals in society. There are protesters fighting for the rights of the "former humans". People aren't supposed to kill zombies. They're supposed to call Undead Management Control (UMC) to come capture them and take them to processing centers. Humans that kill zombies are supposed to be prosecuted, but rarely are (zombies are stand-ins for minorities in today's society). There are conspiracy theories about how the virus started. One man releases some documents from a pharmaceutical company and is prosecuted for possibly preventing a pharmaceutical company from making billions of dollars.
Of course, there's social commentary of the rich vs. the poor. "The only good zombie is a dead zombie". Political correctness has run amuck. My favorite idea was that all the movies and TV shows about zombies were actually the government's way of preparing its citizens for how to prepare for a real zombie apocalypse.
I could go on, but you should read this book yourself so you can laugh out loud when you see how the author has cleverly weaved a zombie story with the social and political issues of our time. It is hilarious. There's also some zombie stuff, but that is still used as a background for commentary on today's world.
If you like satire and you like zombies, definitely get this book. It is smart and witty and completely captures the political climate today.
